# Connecting a WhatsApp inbox

Connect your WhatsApp Business number to Mampu AI using **WhatsApp Cloud** and Meta's embedded signup. Once connected, incoming WhatsApp messages arrive in your inbox and your AI agent can reply. You can also import your existing contacts and chat history by scanning a QR code — no separate WhatsApp Cloud API keys required.

> **Not what you're looking for?** To register a brand-new number as a WhatsApp official (WhatsApp API) account, see [Registering a WhatsApp official number](/settings/registering-a-whatsapp-official-number). To move a number that's already on the WhatsApp API with another provider, see [Migrating an existing WhatsApp number to Mampu AI](/settings/migrating-an-existing-whatsapp-number).

## Two ways to connect

When you pick **WhatsApp** as the channel, the provider screen offers:

* **WhatsApp Cloud** — the official route through Meta, documented step by step below. Best for WhatsApp API features such as approved templates and template blasting.
* **WhatsApp Business** — connect a regular WhatsApp Business number by scanning a QR code with your phone, no Meta setup required. Enter the inbox name and phone number, then scan the code shown to link your WhatsApp — messages start arriving in your inbox right away.

The rest of this guide walks through the **WhatsApp Cloud** route.

## Before you start

* The **WhatsApp Business app** installed on your phone, with the number you want to connect.
* A Meta **Business account** (business portfolio) you can log in to.
* Be aware: connecting shares your WhatsApp Business account information — phone number, contacts, chats and chat history — with Mampu AI.

## 1. Start from the Go live checklist

On your Mampu AI home page, the **Go live** setup checklist shows the step to publish your agent and connect a messaging channel.

## 2. Add a new inbox

Go to **Settings → Inboxes**. If you have no inboxes yet, the page is empty. Click **Add Inbox**.

## 3. Choose WhatsApp and WhatsApp Cloud

Select **WhatsApp** as the channel to connect. Then, for the API provider, choose **WhatsApp Cloud** — the quick setup option through Meta.

## 4. Connect with WhatsApp Business

On the **Quick setup with Meta** page, click **Connect with WhatsApp Business**. This redirects you to Facebook Login for Business.

## You're done

Once the scan completes, your WhatsApp inbox is connected. Incoming WhatsApp messages now appear in Mampu AI, and your AI agent can start replying. You can fine-tune the inbox anytime under **Settings → Inboxes**.

## What Mampu AI learns from your chat history

When you share your chat history in step 9, your past WhatsApp chats arrive in the inbox as earlier conversations, with their original dates. About an hour after the last chats arrive, Mampu AI reads your most recent chats (up to 500) once and prepares two things for you, on every plan:

* **FAQ suggestions** — questions your team has already answered become drafts under **Flow Agents → AI Knowledge Hub → FAQ → Pending**. Each draft shows the customer message and the reply it came from, and nothing is used until you approve it. See [Reviewing pending drafts](/flow-agents/managing-ai-knowledge#reviewing-pending-drafts).
* **A draft flow agent** — a new agent under **Flow Agents**, named after your inbox and built from how your team usually handles these chats. It is only a draft: it does not reply to anyone until you review it, connect it to an inbox and publish it.

Your account's administrators get one email when it is ready, with links to the draft agent and the FAQ suggestions. If your chats don't give enough to build an agent, the email points to the FAQ suggestions only — you can build one later from newer chats with **Analyse chats** on the **Flow Agents** page.

This happens once per number: reconnecting the same number does not run it again.

## Connection status of a WhatsApp Business number

A number connected with the **WhatsApp Business** option by QR code shows a small dot on its inbox's channel icon — in the **Channels** list of the left sidebar and on each inbox in **Settings → Inboxes**. The dot is green while the number is connected and red when it is not. Hover over it to read **Connected** or **Disconnected**. Only inboxes connected by QR code show the dot.

While a number is disconnected, new messages aren't delivered until you reconnect the inbox, and its conversations show a *WhatsApp is disconnected* banner.

### Reconnecting

1. Open the inbox's settings from **Settings → Inboxes**.
2. Go to the **Connection Status** tab.
3. Click **Reconnect**.
4. Scan the new QR code with WhatsApp on your phone.

You can also click **Reconnect WhatsApp** on the banner in a conversation.
